We had our first homestudy visit today! One giant step towards Emma. The rest of our visits are now scheduled and we simply await paperwork to move and fingerprints to pass background checks.
We had a great meeting with our social worker. When he mentioned that he loves to bike and takes biking trips all over the world, usually three times a year, I do believe I heard a high-pitched, yearning noise come from Jim- and the glazed look in his eyes combined with a small little bit of drool that ran down his chin…
We read a blog post last month that made us laugh long and hard with that resonating recognition that comes when someone articulates well a snapshot of your heart. The woman writing said something about always wanting a farm with goats. Just land and goats. Nothing big or fancy. But God called them to something else. So, no land, and no goats. That something else, however, is better because it is God’s design for her life. His call to their family.
Jim had that moment yesterday. Biking. Just some time with his pedals flying and the road rising up ahead.
It’ll happen. Just not abroad. Or for longer than a few hours.
Limited time on the road? Yes. The death of a dream? No way. God graciously lavishing on us the high calling and great joy of parenthood one more time? Amen. It is the giving up of a bit of something good for something even better. It is called a child. And love.
Jim joyfully rides his bike. Often (in the warm months). With vim and vigor. And God’s way.
Because that’s how he rolls.
