A first snow.
The crowning glory of winter, and in perfect splendor the flakes danced down this morning. A ballet to behold from our picture windows, framing perfectly each snowflake as they fell in thick, large abundance. It is one of those wet snows where the trees are frosted like a gingerbread house at Christmas and the accumulation weighs heavily on fences. Thick and gorgeous. A day like this makes me think everyone would long to live here if they could see it.
Very large snowflakes are falling outside.
So large, that even without her glasses our Emma Kate can see them dancing. The Lord's pageant crafted just for her, it feels. My heart is so full watching her. She is snuggled up on our window seat with Anna and Luke, all three captivated and entranced by the snowfall. We are captivated and entranced by our Emma Kate.
Sledding is scheduled for the afternoon. A snow fort and snowman have already been created! I will load pictures later. I ventured out to the grocery and to pick Coop up from a sleepover. There are tree limbs down everywhere, and getting back home proved to be a trick. Two blocks were blocked by trees laying across the road. Our block had a large limb that left just enough room for us to slowly squeeze by in our car. High drama and lots of grand fun with which to greet the winter season.
Snow is here to stay! Once it snows here in the northland, there's no melting away until spring. So welcome, winter. We are glad to make your acquaintance this year with such a special "first" in our home.
EK is a winter girlie! She may have been born in the south (and hopefully will retain some of that wonderful gentility) but she's made for Minnesota! God knows best, doesn't he? She wasn't even fazed by the large ensemble of clothes it takes to go outside once it is snowy and cold. We had fun bundling her up, and are quite sure she looks just like a roly-poly puppy. She giggled with glee and wasn't too annoyed when she realized the snow was falling on her face and there wasn't much she could do about it. So funny.
We delight in a beautiful day. A quiet home day. We ate brunch for lunch (yum!), brewed two pots of coffee, the kids have neighbors and friends coming to sled and we are all just enjoying the goodness of being here together. Over lunch Anna remarked that it seems that EK has been here so much longer than a mere two weeks.
As I finish this, she just walked into the front hall and opened the door to see the falling snow, then turned to our dog, Swede, and kissed her and rolled around on the floor with her. Speaking of two weeks...
"It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter." - Psalm 74:17
