She is now in surgery, and we are waiting. We anticipate a 1-2 hour surgery. Surgery began at 9:45am.
We received a call this morning that we could come in earlier than expected. This was totally the Lord's orchestration. I was so unsure how we would convey to her that she could not eat this morning. And our girl who is usually up by 5am, bright eyed and bushy tailed in addition to fully dressed, slept in until I had to go WAKE HER UP! At 7:45am.
No kidding.
Yesterday, Anna had a routine dentist appointment. Yes, she did. And that wasn't due to my amazing mothering skill set. Emma Kate was able to observe her sister with myriad dental instruments going in and out of her mouth. She was quite impressed that Anna wasn't crying, and the prize box at the end sealed the amicable dental deal with her! So it was beautiful groundwork for talking to her about today.
Add to the perfect provision from her Father, the amazing "coincidence" that Dr. King, her surgeon, just "happened" (!) to be in the office. He usually isn't. He also just "happened" to ask our dentist to talk about the Emma as he was reviewing his surgery schedule for today.
Are you smiling yet?
Our dentist was so excited, giddy really, to come over and tell us of the "coincidence". He told Dr. King that not only could he tell him about Emma, but that he could introduce him to her because she was there right now! It was truly a wonderful thing for Emma. And for me.
Dr. King and I spoke about what would occur today, and even more than that, he was so kind, engaging and gentle with Emma Kate. He won her over, and let me tell you that is something in a medical setting. Suspicious is her usual demeanor. With good reason, really.
The Lord also blessed me as Dr. King's eyes glistened and he told me that our families are mirror sets. He and his wife have three daughters and two adopted sons. They adopted 38 years ago! And as he shared his story, he told me how blessed we are to have our girls (who were both there).
Blessed, indeed, we are. It meant so much to me that he recognized that WE are the blessed ones. That the blessing goes both ways. It isn't just Emma having good done to and for her, that it is us with the need of the goodness of her in our family, too.
She is such a treasure. And we are filled with gratefulness and gratitude that she is our treasure.
Thank you for holding her to God's care and the able hands and skill of Dr. King. We will post an update when she's done.
Love. Sara and Jim
