This is the story of how this:
One of Luke's last unit's of study at school is on the fifty states. Each student selects a state to focus on, and does a variety of things to learn about that state. The culmination of that work is a state float and concert featuring patriotic songs. The kids parade around the school at the end of it all with patriotic music blaring from the loudspeakers. So old school and throw back. I love it! We love everything about it.
It is so fun; a highlight of the year.
I think he's pretty pleased all in all.
See the coon skin cap? Daniel Boone was a man!
Here's the float in the car ready for transport to school. Luke and I were sitting in the car hammering tacks into pages of info. and pictures at 8am. Whew...yep. That was last minute finishing touches. And yes, we needed other adult assistance to get it out at school.
I think Swede is pretty impressed, don't you?
Luke singing the national anthem with his classmates. Notice his great outfit.
Here's a story: He went to school in one outfit that Gogo assisted him in selecting. And like a junior high girl, he went to the bathroom and CHANGED CLOTHES!
Yep. True story. Proof is above.
Naughty boy. Those shorts? His new lacrosse shorts that he dragged out of the dirty laundry. And dirty would be a gentle description of what they truly looked like! Bless my heart.
Here we are! My Dad drove up from Rochester to attend. He and my mom stayed with us and were such a TREMENDOUS help on the day of Emma's surgery.
What day was that? Oh, the same day as the 4th grade float.
The Lord orchestrated the timing on it all and we were home with Emma Kate well settled on the couch when it was time to leave for the festivities. Originally my Mom was going to go, but I think she sensed my angst at missing it and she volunteered to stay with Emma who was truly doing so well that we all felt comfortable making that decision.
What a fun time it was!
So ends our tenure with 4th grade floats.
Cooper had Hawaii, and Jim and Coop constructed a working volcano.
Jeb had New Mexico, and Jim and Jeb made a huge roadrunner aking to the large horse of Kentucky.
Luke had the bluegrass state, with the huge horse!
Well done, boys. Well done.
