Emma is snuggled up on the couch, with pillows propping her purple foot up. Her arm is being lifted gently by her loyal pink blanket.
Once again, hospital time transformed by the pink and green Emma blanket.
Emma is very much "out of it", and we have her on some fairly strong pain meds for the next day or so.
Both surgeons reported that they felt surgery was very successful.
Emma's right hand was repaired using some of the skin from her left calf, which meant they didn't need to graft from her elbow! Instead of having a cast that goes around her elbow, she only has a short one that ends partway up her forearm.
This is such a blessing. She will be much more comfortable and able to navigate in a shorter cast.
She has a walking cast {a boot} on her foot, and the foot and leg are generously wrapped under that in oodles of sterile bandages.
No baths or showers for three weeks. We will have fun playing beauty salon with Emma draped over the sink and me scrubbing her hair that way!
It is wonderful to be home. And Emma, while tired and medicated, seems grateful to be back.
The casts are not her good friends, right now. We are hoping over time, with some signing by her cool siblings and fan club, they will become less distasteful!
Now for my confession: on the way home we drove through Burger King, and ate like fast food kings. It tasted soooo yummy. Whopper Jr, fries and a chocolate shake. I can't recall the last time we did that! And the result? A food nap for the three of us upon settling on the couch. Okay, Emma didn't eat the burger, but those fries and shake went down well!
Thank you all for your prayers for Emma and our family today. Knowing we are upheld in such a way makes an incredible difference; in our hearts and in the real ways God works through our prayers. We know they avail much!
Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Today was a good day.
