wow. time is flying...and we are in surgery again

How is my last post from May?!?!

Goodness graciousness.

And I have all these things to say.  About our very first Memorial Day at home ever {minus the year I was days from giving birth to Cooper}.  About Anna turning eight!  About school decisions, new surgeries scheduled, school year endings, and on and on.

But this morning, we go to Gillette's for another surgery.

Emma is having the back of her calf repaired {a z-plasty to release the remaining constriction band, for those of you interested in medical jargon}.  She is also having a 2nd and fourth web syndactyly repair where her middle finger will emerge and be separated from her pointer finger, and between her pinky and ring finger there will be a separation.  Again, they will use excess skin from the calf repair to graft skin to her new fingers!

Wow, I say.  Amazing.

When all is said and done we will go home with an arm cast and her leg wrapped.  No waterproof cast.  Three weeks of casts.

And when the casts come off?

Five fingers!  Five!  F.i.v.e.

It used to look like three.

Incredible.

I should also mention family solidarity in passing.

Emma has been unhappy about more casts.  In her Emma way of complaining, which barely registers as muttering on the complaining scale.  She gets more upset if someone won't play baseball with her.  :)

But another surgery after the many we've already had is daunting.  And she didn't like the cast.  Not purple.  Not red.  Not green. Not blue.  Not even glow in the dark.

Wel.....she didn't like the cast idea until one big brother came home from longboarding on Wednesday with a wrist that would not bend after meeting a pole.

You read that correctly.  Cooper broke his right wrist.  And he has the distinct privilege of wearing a cast for six to EIGHT weeks!

All that changed Emma Kate's view immediately.  In fact, she can't wait to come home with her cast today.  Blue.  She wants blue.

So, off we go.  In fifteen minutes.

If you read this today, we would ask {please!} for your prayers for Emma Kate.

I'll update the blog as we go.

And sorry for the lengthy blog silence.  May about did me in!
